Mauritius Highlight

Mauritius a truly island paradise with something for everyone.

Island Facts

Mauritius is a small island situated in the Indian Ocean. Flying time from the UK direct is 12 hours.

In 2018 they celebrated 50 years of independence.

It is a cultural island,  The island has some of the best beaches, coastlines hotels and resorts also featuring mountains, stunning scenery, banana plantations and history. Population is roughly 1.2 million people who live in the countryside towns and villages with the Capitol Port Louis inhabitants of 150,000. Language is English, French, Creole and over 49% are Hindus. Chinese, English, French, Asian and  descendants from Indian people and are referred to as Indo-Mauritians.

Although Mauritius is an all year round destination with an average temperature of 25 and it still boasts seasons.  Best time to travel is September through to November being the hottest months and less rain fall. Janurary through to March is Cyclone season and the airport is sometimes closed. Winter months are June through to August, where the weather is still warm but cloudy.

With the weather in mind West and North parts of the island are the best, as the South and East pick up the tradewinds.

There are 4 sugar plantations and a sugar cane Rhumerie and tea fields are still on the Island.

The food is amazing, fresh fish such as Maki, Nigiri, Tuna, Dorado also beef steak are always on a menu – they fully cater for allergens and their Tea is a must.

The roads are good and you can easily hire a car as they drive on our side of the road. Also You are never to far from anywhere on the island.

A Rhumerie –  the only sugar cane process and tasting.

Port Louis cultural tour – started at the La Citadelle, then went into the market area, then walked through the capital down to the craft markets and port side.Shopping is a must for souvenirs here.

Le Telfair  – A small luxury hotel of the world – Very colonial set on a 1 km stretch of pristine beach. The Awali also has a baby, kids and teen programme with fun for all.

Tuesday nights both hotels offer an truly African Experience- a meal set around a large fire with African dancers drummers fire eaters.  It only seats 50 so you would need to book and is an extra cost and worth doing.

As this resort is set in a nature reserve you can take a trip out walking, exploring or quad biking.

4* Tamassa

This Hotel is certainly set in a lovely tropical setting, ALL the rooms are sea facing and the beach is so clean and shallow for younger people – it has a large and open feel. Although this is a family hotel it feels relax and calm.
